Directionality is the ability to understand and remember the proper orientation of a letter or a number. Problems with directionality usually cause letter and word reversals. The child will often scan a word in the wrong direction (saw for was) or will confuse certain letters and numbers because they cannot remember which way they should be facing. This can cause confusion between b's and d's, p's and q's, etc.
